Goat Cheese Tart, Carottes Râpées, & Celeri Remoulade (10/06)

We didn't want a huge dinner that night, so before we left for Avignon, stopped at the local boulangerie where I scored myself one of these luscious Goat Cheese Tarts. It was heaven in a pastry crust. The tart consisted of red and yellow tomatoes, fresh basil, and that creamy chunk of my favorite cheese. After seeing it, I nearly didn't make it to Avignon!
To keep it light, we served it with several salads: lettuce, Alison's tomato salad, and two French classics: Carottes Râpées (shredded carrots dressed in a light vinaigrette) and Celeri Remoulade (shredded celery root in a mayonnaise sauce). Now, I adore celeriac and have been to France several times, but this was a first for me. It was one of my favorite foodie discoveries (along with Perrier Menthe and Macarons) and I will definitely be adding it to my staple recipe collection, once I have mastered it. In the upcoming weeks, I'm going to give it my all to see if I can recreate the taste, and once I do - will be sharing it with you.
This was all washed down with a lovely bottle of chilled Pouilly-Fumé. Pouilly Fumé is a fantastic budget friendly alternative to the pricier Sancerre.

Lisa - Hi! I will def. share when I recreate. There isn't anything more divine than goat cheese and tomato - right? Tragedy is my husband hates it so I don't cook with it nearly as much as I should. I do have a good goat cheese pizza recipe that I'll share some time - though after seeing your pizzas, am some what intimidated. Am not that good with dough :-(

Kate - I'm sure it is a loss to Sarasota, but you couldn't have chosen a nicer place. We went there for the first time 2 years ago and completely fell in love with Charleston. I still live in Sarasota, but was in France late September through mid October. I had hoped to have finished with my Fench blogging by now, but due to work obligations and holiday happenings, it has drug on a little longer than planned. That and the probably subconsion effort to drag it out as long as possible to either appear that I was there longer than I was or the fear that once I finish posting, that my trip is officially over and done with...

General musings of goat cheese: unfortunately, most of my goat cheese loving friends have moved away, and in one case turned vegan, so am currently missing co-enjoyers of the divine creamy white cheese.

We have so much in common! The love of goat cheese and tomato, artichokes, siamese cats, and husbands who hate goat cheese. haha! Did you happen to read my post about my handsome kitty, Igby, that I told you about? Tragic.

Anyhow, Happy New Year to you. I look forward to seeing what kind of delicious things you have to write about in 2009.

I some how missed your post on Igby - am so sorry though. That is very sad, he looked lovely. 2008 was a truely horrible year, so here's to 2009 being better!

Have to finish my trip as I've got a back-catalog of things to post now. I can't wait to see what lovely things you come up with - like what is going to top the ribeye chili!!!

We do have a lot in common! We also share an interest in Water for Elephants - where the research for the book was done in my city!!! That was in the top 2 books for me of 2008.
